Third Quarter 2021 Regional Economic Situationer

Various occurrences took place in Caraga that influenced the performance of the Region’s key sectors in third quarter 2021. Among the notable events during the period is the presence of the highly contagious Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Delta variant in the Region on 06 September 2021 . Aside from the Delta variant, three other COVID-19 strains are still active in the Region, namely: the Alpha, Beta, and P.3 variants. Due to threats of these more dangerous variants, the Region faced new waves of lockdowns and strict protocols within the period.

From July 1-31, 2021 , the Provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan de Sur, and Surigao del Norte were placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), while the Provinces of Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands and Butuan City were placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). From August 1 to September 30, 2021 , the five Provinces of the Region were placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), while Butuan City was placed under GCQ with heightened restrictions.

On another matter, the Islands of Dinagat, Siargao, and Bucas Grande were classified under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression “Jolina” on September 6, 2021. Several rainfall alerts categorized from moderate to heavy were also issued in Caraga Region within third quarter 2021.

Despite the aforementioned events that affected the Region’s performance, various sectors displayed some degree of adaptability and resilience in the face of adversities.

The Third Quarter 2021 Caraga Regional Economic Situationer reports on the performance of the Region’s key socioeconomic indicators vis-à-vis its performance in previous periods. The report also provides for the Region’s development prospects in the remaining months of 2021.
