National Economic and Development Authority Caraga Chief Economic Development Specialist (CEDS) Melanie A. Maur presented the Region’s initiatives on the global goals.

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Caraga represented by Chief EDS Melanie A. Maur presented the Updates on the Philippine Sustainable Development Agenda in Caraga during the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA) Inception Workshop for Nature-Based Solutions for Infrastructure Resilience on December 12, 2022, in Butuan City.

During the workshop, CEDS Maur highlighted the Region’s initiatives on the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and on climate resiliency and environmental sustainability which correspond to SDGs 11 to 15. The presentation also emphasized the 8-point socioeconomic agenda of the current administration and how this agenda supports the achievement of global goals. Also included in the report are the Region’s efforts to accelerate climate action and strengthen disaster resilience in the next six years as espoused in the Caraga Regional Development Plan 2023-2028.

Approaches to Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and Climate Change Adaptation, Mainstreaming NBS in Infrastructure Planning, and Modeling Critical NBS for Climate Resilience were also among the key topics discussed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). In the afternoon, NEDA Caraga and the other participants joined the group discussion on planning for climate-resilient development and nature-based approaches. Funded by the WWF in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the German BMUV International Climate Initiative (IKI), SIPA aims to convene and build the capacities of a multi-stakeholder planning group to harness data on ecosystems and climate, local, and indigenous knowledge and related resources to support planning for climate resilient infrastructure planning. The project also aims to support national climate-resilient infrastructure planning with the promotion of nature-based solutions.

The inception workshop is a prelude to crafting a SIPA roadmap for Butuan City.
